LEADERSHIP INSIGHT
Executive range starts before the title.
The next level of leadership is not about knowing more inside your lane. It is about helping the organization make better decisions across lanes.
Executive readiness shows up when you can connect a member outcome to the financial, operational, risk, and people implications, then make a clear recommendation.

Credit union news worth your attention
A MERGER TAKES EFFECT, AND SCALE STAYS ON THE AGENDA
WeDevelopment Federal Credit Union merged into CommunityAmerica Federal Credit Union on September 1. The transaction moves a credit union with roughly 1,000 members and $2.4 million in assets into a much larger institution with approximately $9 billion in assets.
The leadership question is not simply whether consolidation is increasing. It is whether smaller institutions are building the strategy, capabilities, and member value proposition needed to remain viable on their own terms.
NCUA 2026 PRIORITIES PUT BALANCE SHEET RESILIENCE FIRST
NCUA’s 2026 supervisory priorities continue to emphasize lending quality, liquidity, interest-rate risk, earnings, capital adequacy, payment systems, fraud prevention, and risk-based BSA compliance.
For emerging leaders, the message is clear: decisions cannot stay inside one department. A lending initiative can affect liquidity, capital, operations, compliance, staffing, and member trust. Strong leaders learn to connect those consequences before a decision reaches the boardroom.
NCUA FINALIZES 11 RULES IN ITS DEREGULATION PROJECT
In August, the NCUA finalized eleven rules as part of its broader deregulation project. The changes address areas including service to underserved communities, community chartering, credit union service contracts, indirect vehicle lending, and loans to other credit unions.
Regulatory flexibility does not remove leadership responsibility. It creates more room for credit unions to decide what they can do, what they should do, and what controls must remain in place as they move faster.
NCUA HAS A NEW CHAIRMAN
John Crews was sworn in as the fourteenth Chairman of the National Credit Union Administration on August 24. He has emphasized financial stability, responsible innovation, regulatory efficiency, and protecting credit union members.
For emerging leaders, leadership changes at the regulator are worth watching because they can influence examination priorities, regulatory direction, and the operating environment for credit unions.
